Why OpenAI could turn the Internet upside down with its new ChatGPT Atlas browser

There are revolutions that are preceded by a great roar and, therefore, hardly go unnoticed. However, there are also revolutions that develop much more silently and are only felt long after having originally planted their seeds. With its new ChatGPT browser Atlas OpenAI could have started a revolution of the second kind. Although the launch of a new product (another one) by OpenAI might not seem like big news soon, The Long-Term Impact of ChatGPGT’s New Matrix Creature Could Be Absolutely Colossal in Workmanship.

The first version of ChatGPT Atlas may not be perfect in any way and clearly could be improved, but It could radically change the way we usually navigate the Internet.

Until now, it was the companies themselves that determined how users accessed their content on the Internet. And they were the ones who ultimately defined the presentation of their content and the priority given to each of their contents. However, an AI-powered browser like ChatGPT Atlas is a total game-changer.

The Internet user’s “customer journey” is currently headed for a profound metamorphosis because with the emergence of ChatGPT Atlas (and the emulators that are probably looming on the horizon) the content hosted on a web page is susceptible to being discovered without the user having to actively navigate that web page. And in this sense, marketing tetras widely used today such as “Customers who bought this product also bought…” or “Buy it with” could soon pass away, since The new browsers powered by AI condemn web page operators to a merely passive role.

Are web pages as we know them today going to die?

Furthermore, the revolution will not stop here much less and the next step will be the generalization of agentic AIwhich “will kill” in fact to flesh-and-blood humans as consumers in the network of networks and will predictably delegate the commercial transactions carried out there to AI agents (which promise to multiply like mushrooms in the coming years).

The speed with which this revolution will occur is, however, still unknown. Many Internet users are still wary of the possibility of entrusting their online purchases to an AI agent (no matter how capable it may soon prove to be). Furthermore, the activities born in the heat of networks (consuming content, buying products or communicating with other people) continue to provide immense pleasure to Internet users, who in this sense could be reluctant to leave such activities in the hands of AI agents. Even so, and despite initial reluctance, The so-called agentic web will end up crystallizing sooner or later and browsers like ChatGPT Atlas will have an absolutely predominant role in the coming revolution.

There are, in fact, companies that are already clearly betting on the agentic web advocated by OpenAI. The American retail giant Walmart is collaborating, for example, with OpenAI to enable its customers to place online orders directly through ChatGPT. And PayPal also recently presented new tools aimed at agentic commerce.

If the agentic web and agentic commerce eventually reach mainstream status, Web pages (as we know them today at least) could be bedridden. After all, if the user supplies himself with information and purchases on the Internet without ever leaving ChatGPT, he could end up not visiting any website (or in any case significantly reducing the number of websites he visits on a daily basis).

However, although the hidden threats to the agentic web are undoubtedly very real (and therefore worthy of being taken seriously), There is an antidote that can thwart (totally or partially) these threats. And that antidote is none other than the differentiation emanating from humanity instilled in web pages. (which may not die and simply mutate into something else). The key to surviving the revolution brought about by OpenAI with its ChatGPT browser could be to replicate the efficiency born from the bowels of the agentic web and agentic commerce with the pleasure of consuming 100% human content in a network of networks filled to the brim with content generated with AI.
