Instagram reinvents the recommendations algorithm to “start from scratch”
In an effort to deliver more positive and personalized experiences, Instagram has launched a new tool that will allow users, including teenagers, to redefine the content and recommendations they see. This option, called «Recommendations Reset»which will soon launch globally, aims to give more control over what appears in the Explore tab, Reels and main feed, helping the platform reflect current interests and eliminate irrelevant content.
With just a few clicks, users can delete their personalized recommendations and start from scratch. As they interact with new content and accounts, the algorithm will personalize the experience again. In addition, the option to review the list of followed accounts is included, allowing you to stop following those that no longer generate interest. To carry out all this, Instagram has teamed up with organization experts Clea and Joanna, from the famous project The Home Editto promote this digital cleaning, comparing it to organizing a house: reviewing what you really want to keep and getting rid of what is unnecessary.
Instagram introduces new tools to personalize
The new Instagram functions, apart from the recommendations, aim to expand the options already available on the platform. Users can mark content in Explore as “Interesting” or “Not interesting”adjust recommendations by topic, and use keywords to filter out unwanted content.
Teenagers, in particular, have additional functions:
- Chronological feed to view posts in order.
- Favorites list to prioritize specific accounts.
- close friends to selectively share Stories.
- Tools in the “Your activity” section to manage past interactions and keep track of your digital footprint.
Protection and content suitable for teenagers
Instagram is also redoubling its efforts to protect young people from inappropriate content. The platform avoids recommending sensitive or mature posts and hides them even if they come from followed accounts. In addition, he has published a new page on his Transparency Centerwhere it explains how it identifies and blocks this type of content.
With this initiative, Instagram not only promises a safer environment, but also an experience more aligned with the interests of each user, adapting to the changing pace of their passions and needs.
