From Olympus to the abyss: MrBeast faces a lawsuit for his new contest on Prime Video


When a few months ago it was announced with great fanfare that the youtuber MrBeast had signed with Prime Video to present a contest called Beast Gameseverything seemed to indicate that the format was going to be a resounding success and that it was going to further boost the fame of its creator, who has the reputation of being the most popular youtuber in the world with more than 316 million subscribers on YouTube.

However, During the recording of this much vaunted contest, a series of events occurred that have now led to five anonymous participants Beast Games to file a class action lawsuit against MrBeast and Amazon for suffering chronic abuse, sexual harassment and other legally punishable actions.

The lawsuit was filed on September 16 in the Los Angeles Superior Court and refers to Multiple episodes of abuse and neglect that occurred during the recording of the YouTuber’s contestwhere more than 1,000 participants compete for a prize of 5 million dollars.

The complaint specifies that Beast Games It has a budget of 100 million dollars and Amazon and MrBeast are required to pay the plaintiffs their allegedly unpaid wages and expenses and to pay damages.

According to the class action lawsuit, Amazon and Off One’s Base LLC, MrBeast’s production company, failed to pay Beast Games contestants minimum wage or overtime while filming the show, failed to prevent sexual harassment, created working conditions that inflicted significant emotional distress on contestantsdid not provide participants with uninterrupted breaks for eating and resting and constantly exposed them to dangerous situations as a condition for continuing to compete on the program.

The plaintiffs allege, among other things, chronic abuse, sexual harassment and deprivation of medical care.

“Even though the contestants knew when they signed the contract at the beginning of production that they were facing a potentially long and challenging competition, they claim that the filming ended up being much tougher than they expected,” the plaintiffs’ lawyers say. «Several contestants ended up hospitalized, while others suffered mental and physical problems from being subjected to chronic abuse and degradation. and, in the case of female contestants, hostile working conditions,” the lawyers added.

During the filming of Beast Games The contestants would have been deprived of medical care, food, sleep and what was necessary to maintain basic hygiene.There was also reportedly a clear pattern of sexual harassment during the filming of the show, and according to an alleged MrBeast employee manual, contestants were reportedly required to tolerate intolerable behaviour (such as drawing penises on the whiteboard) in order to contribute to the success of the production and its creators. Additionally, women who took part in the show reportedly had to deal with a clearly hostile work environment.

Before the class action lawsuit was filed against MrBeast and Amazon over the poor conditions in which the contest was recorded Beast Games, The YouTuber and the company were already publicly put in the spotlight last August for the precarious situation that the contestants had to deal with during the filming of the reality show, where many decided, however, to stay in the hope of winning 5 million dollars.
