Apple throws DMA pests and asks the European Commission to repeal the law
When the Digital Markets Law (DMA) was approved by the European Commission in 2022, the intention of Brussels was that this rule became an instrument to limit power (absolutely out of mother, according to some) of the “Big Tech.” However, One of those “Big Tech”, Apple for more signs, has now decided to stand up to the DMAa law that, in his opinion, would not be promoting competition, but would be translating in the creation of new vulnerabilities for users.
In A hard statement The apple company asks the European Union to repeal the DMA and lists the dangers for the user that would entail this standard (by installing programs outside your App Store on the iPhone, for example). The DMA forces Apple to authorize that “marketplaces” different from its app store can be used by the user to download and install applications on the iPhone.
«The European Commission has used the DMA to create a more complicated and less reliable environment that brings with it completely new risks for our customers«, Emphasizes Apple.
According to the Cupertino company, The DMA would have opened the door to fraud and “malware” and would have allowed installation on the iPhone of applications that are dangerous for children.
Apple believes that the European Commission would not be fair when it comes to forcing compliance with the DMA
In the Apple Digital Markets Law, it was classified in its day, along with Alphabet (Google), Bytedance (Tiktok), Amazon, Meta and Microsoft as “Gatekeeper”or what is the same as one as a company that acts as an intermediary between users and other companies. And as “Gatekeeper”, the apple company is obliged to meet the requirements collected in the DMA in each of its different services.
Apple feels, however, that the DMA is not a fair law, since it does not apply to other companies that are not categorized as “gatekeepers” And they do exercise, however, that role. This is the case of Samsung, the company argues, which, according to the DMA, is not “gatekeeper” and is, however, leader in the smartphones market in Europe.
Those of Cupertino also regret. The company says it has been put the peephole by Brussels on account of the DMA fulfillment up to five times (more than the other affected companies together, underlines).
In April of this year, the European Commission imposed a fine of 500 million euros to break the DMA precepts And that sanction would have been unheard of, according to Apple.
