Zuckerberg and Trump stop fighting each other and meet at Mar-a-Lago
In 2021, after the much-vaunted assault on the Capitol by Donald Trump’s followers, Meta made the decision to block the United States president’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram. And later Trump came to call Facebook the “enemy of the people.” With such harsh events behind them, it is evident that the relationship between Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and CEO of Meta, and Donald Trump is not exactly the most cordial. However, Both parties have decided to smooth things over with a dinner that took place at Mar-a-Lago, the residence of the president of the United States in Florida.
The meeting is by no means trivial if we take into account that Trump once threatened to send Zuckerberg to prison. However, tempers on both sides seem to have tempered considerably since then.
Zuckerberg has been “grateful” for the invitation that Trump sent him to dinner at his residence in Mar-a-Lagowhere the CEO of Meta had the opportunity to chat with the president-elect of the United States and the members of his team about the new Administration of the North American country, according to a Meta spokesperson.
Stephen Miller, who will be Trump’s deputy chief of staff at the head of the White House, has assured, for his part, in statements to Fox News what In the meeting he held last night with the future president of the United States, Zuckerberg showed his support for the Republican. “Mark of course has his own interests, as they have their own company and their own agenda,” Miller says. But Zuckerberg made it very clear in any case that his intention is to support Trump in his second term as head of the White House, Miller asserts.
Trump and Zuckerberg are trying to resolve their differences
In the United States, local media have interpreted the meeting held by Trump and Zuckerberg as a rapprochement between the two.. And the CEO of Meta has, in fact, recently made an effort to build bridges with the president-elect of the United States (perhaps knowing that Trump really had a good chance of reaching the White House).
Meta blocked Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts shortly before the end of his first term as head of the White Housewhen his acolytes stormed the Capitol on June 6, 2021. However, Meta’s oversight committee later concluded that the indefinite blocking of Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts was not covered by the rules of both platforms. And for this reason, in early 2023 Trump recovered his Facebook and Instagram accounts.
According to data held by Bloomberg, Zuckerberg is currently the second richest person in the world. The first position in the ranking of the wealthiest people is occupied by Elon Musk, who will be part of Trump’s cabinet and will presumably be in charge of the new Department of Government Efficiency of the Republican Executive.
It is not clear if Musk would have participated in the meeting held yesterday by Trump and Zuckerberg, but the confrontations between both businessmen have been more than notable in recent months. And last year, Musk challenged Zuckerberg to have a fight inside a cage.
